Applying to the DGC Ontario Guild Apprentice Programs

The Guild Apprentice Programs ("GAP") are designed for people who are not yet eligible for DGC Membership because they require more experience in the professional field. There is no deadline for applying to any of the Guild Apprentice Programs. However, it is in your best interest to apply as close to the dates of your department's Apprentice Training Days as possible. See the Training Schedule further down on this page.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You CANNOT WORK without having taken the GAP Training Days.

FAQs

How much does the Guild Apprentice Program cost?

It costs $700.00 (new!) + hst (13%) for a total of $791.00 to join the Guild Apprentice Programs in any of the departments.

Payments accepted are certified cheque, cash, money order, Visa or Master Card and (in office only) the use of Interac.

How long is the Program?

You have 18 months to complete your Apprentice Program. In those 18 months, you need to acquire 50 days of work over three different productions. If you acquire your 50 days of work sooner, you can leave the Program sooner and join the DGC. However, you do have 18 months in which to complete the Program.

Which departments have an Apprentice Program?

You can join as a Set Production Assistant Apprentice, a Locations Assistant Apprentice, an Art Department Apprentice, an Accounting Department Apprentice or an Editing Department Apprentice.

Can I start right away?

Unfortunately, no. You have to have your Training Days done first (the Core Training Day, as well as the specific Caucus Training Day(s) as applicable). See the schedule below for more details.

You must also provide proof of your First Aid/CPR (basic), and WHMIS (which can be done online at www.virtualwhmis.com). This must accompany your application.

Other training required for completion of the Program includes the Workplace Harassment/Anger Management/Conflict Resolution Workshop and Propane Certification (if you're in the Locations Program). You can complete these workshops WHILE IN THE PROGRAM.

What do I have to submit in addition to my application?

In addition to the actual application, you must submit an updated resume, the payment (as indicated above) and a copy of your birth certificate or passport (showing your Canadian citizenship), a copy of your First Aid/CPR certificate and a copy of your WHMIS certificate (as noted above).
