Applying to the Directors Guild of Canada ("DGC") If you can supply proof of 150 days of work (in your chosen Guild-represented category) over the course of three DGC-approved productions, you may be eligible for membership into the DGC. Please read this page in its entirety before calling the DGC Ontario office with questions. Your questions may be answered here. The Application Process "What paperwork do I need?" Directors Guild of Canada General Application Directors Guild of Canada - DIRECTOR Application All applications must also include the appropriate RRSP form(s): If you file as an "individual", please submit this form: Great West Life RRSP Enrolment Form - Individual If you file as a "corporation", please submit BOTH these forms: Great West Life RRSP Enrolment Form - Individual Great West Life RRSP Enrolment Form - Corporate If you wish to open an NRSP Individual account (for overflow), you can download that form here. Please note that Membership Applications are reviewed approximately once a month. "I think my paperwork is ready to submit. What comes next?" The first thing to do is make sure that your application is indeed complete. Your COMPLETED application includes the following: 1) The application paperwork, filled in completely, and signed where appropriate (please note that in the case of Directors, you must also complete the paperwork for the DRCC application); 2) Letters of sponsorship from two Full DGC Members in Active Good Standing, one of whom is in a category equal to or higher than the one in which you are applying (please note that if you are applying in an Associate Member category, both your sponsors must be Full Members); 3) The Credit Form page of the application, filled out in detail; 4) Proof of your 150 days of work ("Proof" can be submitted in the form of pay stubs, copies of deal memos, contracts, letters from the Producer of the production itemizing the number of days worked or the signature of the Producer next to the appropriate credit on the Credit Form mentioned above); PLEASE NOTE: If you are a graduate of the Guild Apprentice Program, you need only submit proof of 50 days of work. 5) An updated resume; 6) A copy of your birth certificate, permanent resident card or passport, proving your Canadian citizenship; 7) The appropriate RRSP form for you (either "individual" or "corporation", depending on how you file your taxes); and 8) Payment in full for your New Member Dues - $1500.00 for Full Members and $1000.00 for Associate Members. Payment can be made by credit card, certified cheque or money order. When you are ready to submit your COMPLETED application, please contact Chris Coulter, Membership Assistant at (416) 925-8200 or by email at ccoulter@dgcodc.ca to make an appointment to go over your paperwork together. Incomplete applications will be returned unprocessed. "I've submitted my paperwork and everything looks good. What happens to it now?" Your application will go through a few stages of review. It's important to remember that membership applications are reviewed by members, not by the staff. First, it will be reviewed by the elected Caucus Representative (re: the department in which you've applied). In the case of an Art Department application, you may be asked to submit a portfolio for review. Next, it will be reviewed by our elected Membership Chairperson. Once the review at the DGC Ontario level is completed, your application is forwarded to the National office for final approval. "How long will all of this take? Can I work on a DGC production while I'm waiting?" While every attempt is made to get applications processed once a month, sometimes it takes longer (depending on timing of receipt of application, availability of Caucus Representatives, etc.) You are not entitled to work on a DGC show in a DGC category until such time as your application has been approved at EVERY level in the process. You will be notified as soon as your application has been approved. For any further information, please contact Chris Coulter, Membership Assistant, at (416) 925-8200 or by email at ccoulter@dgcodc.ca. |
