CFC Payback Awards
Ron Haney Awarded the CFC Payback Award
On June 2nd, Ron Haney received the CFC Payback Award for outstanding contributions to building the Canadian industry and supporting indigenous production. DGC Ontario has a long history of working with CFC to develop unique and invaluable training opportunities for members of the film and television community. Many DGC Ontario members have expanded their portfolios because of CFC's short film, feature film and TV pilot programmes.
The CFC Awards Ceremony and Short Film Screening was a huge success. The venue was packed to standing room only. A large number of people came out to see Ron get his Payback Award including staff members from the Ontario and the National offices as well as industry guests.
Ron was truly honoured to receive the award. It was clear from Slawko Klymkiw's (CFC Executive Director) speech that the Film Centre really valued the work of DGC Ontario and our members.

Here is his speech -
Ron Haney has been CEO & Executive Director of the Directors Guild of Canada - Ontario for the last 4 years. A consummate diplomat who is committed to safeguarding the Guild's interests, Ron is also a champion of emerging talent, of training, and of building strong strategic partnerships. It's never an easy job to balance 35 different professional categories and over 1500 Ontario based members - all with various needs and concerns, but Ron and his incredible staff including Ann Marie Sluga, Tanya Chapman and Laurie Januska manage these challenges with tremendous grace, remaining welcoming, open to innovative ideas and dedicated to building our indigenous industry. The CFC would like to thank Ron Haney and DGC Ontario for being straight shooters, a strong industry leader and a great partner.
Ron accepted the award and said a few very poignant words -
Ontario is truly a centre of excellence for film and television production. CFC and Playback are absolutely integral to fostering our community here. I am not an artist or a creator but my job is to ensure that the resources and infrastructure are present in order for all of our filmmakers to reach their full potential. Best of luck to all of the people who contributed to the five shorts in the screening today and best of luck in the future.
Congratulations to Annie Bradley (Director) and Avi Federgreen (PM) for their short PUDGE, which got a big round of applause from the audience. I recommend to everyone to watch it if you get the chance.
