"You're in." The words I'd been waiting to hear from the moment I found out that Hungry Eyes Film and Television was considering hiring me to direct my first TV episode. I had joined DGC Ontario as a full director over a year before with the hope that this would happen, but I wasn't quite sure how long I'd have to wait. A number of years ago, I directed two seasons and over 80 episodes of Train 48, a half-hour improv show that aired four nights a week on Global Television just after the news. I fell so in love with the process, and the enormous creativity unleashed working with actors in improvisation, that I made my latest feature A Wake using the same method. Cassavettes and Mike Leigh are among those who did it well, but often it became scripted. Our show gave only plot and character beats, and was created on the fly in six hours and on air four hours later. It was by no means easy, but boy was it fun. ....Read more.

A young actress, Emma Hamilton, came to the studio for an ADR session on The Tudors. The network had requested some improved clarity on lines plus a line change for story purposes and changes for free TV. The scene was of Ann Stanhope (Emma) and Francis Bryan (Alan Van Sprang) having sex in the King's court behind some enormous draperies hanging on the wall while the courtiers party....Read more.
